Well, i have to say … after I finally arrived in Bangkok and survived the train experience of 10.5h … I would never ever do it again. Beside the time, its not really a comfortable train (at least not the one I was in), extremely cold (AC on 18* all the time).  The landscape is nice though… but after an hour of watching the very nice green landscape you are done with… Read More

I just had such a wonderful week at the shelter with amazing lovely people and dogs around me, which made it even much harder to leave this place …  I will miss u all so much! Thanks xxx Just picked a couple of more images of the shy, naughty, stubborn, energetic but suuuuper lovely dogs i spent time with the last week ๐Ÿ˜‰    However,  now I am sitting in the train… Read More

Part of the elephant nature park is also a dog shelter. Therefore after doing a week of elephant volunteering I decided to do also a week at the dog shelter. They do have around 400 dogs they have to take care of every day (big and small ones). This means a lot of work in terms of cleaning, feeding, walking, socializing and medicate. The dogs are rescued from meat trade, the street… Read More

After the sun set, the park turns into a quite place. The elephants, water buffalos and all the other animals are back in their shelter …  Beside having nice chats with the other volunteers, it’s also amazing to enjoy the peace and enjoy the sky full of stars and the sound of the night …

The so called elephant walk is far the best ‘job’ here ๐Ÿ˜ you get a walk with the guides through the park while they tell you the stories about the elephants – what happened to them, how old they are, etc. They do have around 74 elephants in the park. Out of them around 50 are physically injured and/or mentally disturbed and are recovering from their badly treatment. Mainly they got rescued… Read More

Enrichment is called a job which is a lot of fun! It means, to arrange food in the shelter of the baby elephants so that they get into it easier in the evening. In detail: putting corn, arrange melons and bananas all over the place and put a bit of salt for their health. In fact: make it nice looking and attractive for the youngsters ๐Ÿ˜

One of our optional evening activities was Thai culture and language which was very interesting.  They thought us the most important cultural behavior – dos and don’ts – as well as some backgrounds about their way of living. Another part was some little frases in Thai as well as singing a little elephant song ๐Ÿ˜ I assume we were not as good as expected in singing since they kept laughing ๐Ÿ˜ >… Read More

Today’s morning job was planting grass.  After a short walk outside the park, we reached our spot where we supposed to fulfill the job. After getting prepared we started digging the soil according instructions given ๐Ÿ˜ Since it was raining a bit in the morning, it was really incredible humid and the warmth On top made us sweating immediately ๐Ÿ˜… Though the job was quite hard, we had a lot of fun… Read More

Besides fulfilling our morning and afternoon jobs, we also have time to enjoy ourselves or attend activities. Todays afternoon activity was bathing the elephants ๐Ÿ˜  Since some of the elephants are handicapped (blind, disfigured legs etc.) you have to be careful and always follow the guides instructions. But bathing the elephants is a lot of fun for both parties. We enjoy spending time with them and getting wet – the elephants get… Read More

Early in the morning I started my journey to the Elephant Nature Park. We were brought out there in small vans. The park is located around 60km outside Chiang Mai.    Arrived on site, we got instructions how to behave around the elephants and a lot of more inputs about the project and the area. We also got shown around the area where we will work the next couple of days …… Read More
