Merry go round the world

On my way up towards Lake Tekapo I made a little detour to Mt Cook. And I got not disappointed! I walked the Hooker Treck. An easy path right to the front of Mt Cook. A gorgeous walk – only a bit annoying is the amount of people … but anyway, according my opinion still worth it ๐Ÿ˜ While driving back (and actually also on the way to Mt Cook) I enjoyed… Read More

Now I really wanted to see them in the mystic atmosphere! And here we go … in the morning I saw a lovely rainbow. A bit further it started to get cloudy, and at Milford Sound it was raining and all… Read More

… that’s how I feel myself ๐Ÿ˜ While driving up to Glenorchy yesterday, I had some gorgeous views! I just spend the afternoon at the lake and took up this beautiful landscape! To reach the very south part of the island you can take the highway #6 and drive down the west coast. Up to Greymouth you will drive along the beautiful coastline with the rough rock formations. Outstanding are the so called ‘Pancake Rocks’ at Punakaiki. Also Hokitika is worth a stop for some souvenier shopping – very well known for their Jade jewelry. After several hours driving I finally reached the Franz… Read More

I spent two days in the Abel Tasman National Park. Day 1: Enjoyed a Kayaking trip along the majestic shore of the Tonga Marine Reserve. While paddling along, we spotted a few seals. Day 2: inspired by the day before I went for a second walk in the Abel Tasman… Read More

Whanganui River (Pipiriki) was the destination for my next day trip. Headed there early in the morning from Turangi. Actually a very nice drive – winding small roads through middle earth ๐Ÿ˜ As I arrived in Pipiriki (kind of a little village in the middle of nowhere), we got ready for the trip. First part was taking the speed boat up the river, through the astonishing scenery…. i felt like driving through… Read More

Today I did the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, a 19.4km hike. Recommended by so many people ๐Ÿ˜ The start was at 7am with the shuttle to the start point – a approx 40′ ride … Even though the weather forecast predicted no rain … we started and ended the hike with rain … unfortunately it was also quite foggy… I assume we missed the most of the beautiful and unique landscape … but… Read More

Today was completely dedicated to the topic ‘Geothermal’. First we explored the Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley. A easy walk through a breathtaking landscape with various hot pools and craters. The color range of the craters, landscape etc was amazing. Afterwards we headed to the Thermal Wonderland ‘Wai-O-Tapu’ to explore some more unique and spectacular geothermal elements… Also here we walked through the area and saw some more astonishing color ranges. From green, yellow,… Read More

Beside the astonishing nature here in New Zealand, a big part is also the Maori culture. So i visited the Whakarewarewa village (the living Maori Village). The place is next to Rotorua, in a unique geothermal valley. Beside a guided tour which gave a lot of inputs about their history and heritage, I enjoyed their cultural performance – which I really liked very much! I also spend some time walking through their… Read More
